Your Questions, Answered

Sliding Windows FAQs

Can I customize my sliding windows?

Yes! In addition to choosing between a 2- or 3-lite design, you can choose the color of the window frame. And, as always, our windows are custom-made for the window opening in your home.

Are sliding windows durable?

The vinyl frames and sashes will never chip, peel, crack or warp. Made tough and solid with virgin vinyl (PVC) powder, their color is formulated throughout so the beautiful luster lasts.

Could sliding windows lower my energy bill?

Yes. Window World of Pittsburgh Sliding Windows are designed for energy efficiency and year-round performance. The multi-chambered sash and mainframe create insulating air spaces for superior thermal efficiency, plus they feature ENERGY STAR-rated insulating glass packages.

Will my purchase be protected by a warranty?

Yes. All windows from Window World of Pittsburgh are protected by the industry’s strongest lifetime warranty.

What is a sliding window?

Also known as slider windows, sliding windows have sashes that can slide open or closed. Sashes on sliding windows are designed to move back and forth horizontally, unlike double hung windows, which have sashes that move up and down vertically.

How do you clean sliding windows?

To properly clean sliding windows, you’ll want to remove both window sashes. To remove your sashes for cleaning, follow these steps:

  • Slide the sash towards the opposite side, leaving a gap of about 3”.
  • Lift the sash as high as it will allow.
  • Pull the bottom of the sash inwards towards you and remove it from the rail.
  • Carefully lower the right sash to the floor so it can be cleaned.
  • Slide the sash towards the opposite side, again leaving a gap of about 3”.
  • Raise the sash as high as it will allow.
  • Pull the bottom of the sash inwards towards you and remove it from the rail.
  • Carefully lower and place the ash onto the floor where it can be cleaned.

How do you put a sliding window back in its frame?

Removing and reassembling sliding window sashes is much more simple than it may appear. To put your sliding window sashes back in place, follow the steps below:

  • Push the top of the exterior-facing window sash up until it sits in the outer window track (the track closest to the exterior of the window). Continue providing upward pressure and push the bottom of the window sash into place on the lower track.
  • Next, push the top of the interior-facing window sash into the upper track (on the interior side of the frame). While continuing to apply upward pressure, push the lower portion of the inner window sash into the lower track until it is securely in place.

How do you measure sliding windows?

When replacing windows, you should always have a professional take measurements before making a purchase. That being said, if you’re interested in measuring sliding windows, please follow the instructions below:

  • Remove your sliding window sashes from the window frame and place them carefully on the ground or in a safe place.
  • Begin by measuring the width of your window frame, specifically the space between the window jambs on either side.
  • Next, measure the height of the windows, at the most narrow point.
  • Finally, measure the window depth by taking measurements of the space between the outer and inner window stops.

What Your Neighbors Are Saying

Frank and Fred were very professional, friendly & courteous. They worked quickly & efficiently when installing 4 windows and a set of sliding glass doors. Very nice job
Cathy & Ernie D.
I hired Window World for an installation of three extremely large slider windows. These are windows other companies said could not be done. After finding their prices very reasonable, I asked for a quote on a garden window. Super price so I went with that also. It too was very large, almost pushing the limits on max size. The windows were installed over the course of a day and a half, and the installers exceeded my expectations in every way, as did the quality of the windows! I highly recommend them to anyone!
Anne F.
Installation was quick and clean. The window was easy to access both inside and outside with no climbing needed, so that probably helped with it being convenient. The two installers were kind, polite and I was comfortable with them (and they made a fuss over my dog). We will only use Window World in the future!
